The County Intermediate Cross Country Championships were held on Sunday, October 13 in Moyglass. Conditions were good, with decent enough under footing with few muddy patche. The ladies raced over 4km which was just over 3 laps of the circuit. We had 5 ladies compete. Karen Coughlan took to the front with Moyne AC’s Lorraine Healy. They kept with each over the first 2 laps.
Coming to the last steep hill on the third loop Karen began to open a gap, which she kept extending for over 1km to the finish. A fine performance from Karen to win Gold in 20:38. She had placed 2nd in the Novice the previous week and there was no stopping her this week. A truly deserved win after a strong year and a half of running. Next we had 5th Tish Ryan 22:10 and 6th Eimear Loughman 22:14 both making their debut in this Championship.
These three combined to win the Cup with a 9 point gap from Silver. Also running was 9th Mairead Julian 22:37 and 13th Laura McCarthy Armstrong 24:19. The men raced over 8km. Colm Bradshaw put on a fine performance to claim Silver in 29:07. He kept a good distance from third place who finished ahead of him last week in the Novice.
Next we had 7th Dermot Hayes 30:43, 11th Ruadhri Devitt 31:51 and 15th Donal Keane 32:29. These four won Silver in the team event. Also running was 18th Stephen Ryan 33:09 and 22nd Michael Moore 34:34.
